The men, with every athlete returning from last fall's NACC champs, have a far less calcified hierarchy. Two of the top five returning first-years from the 2013 Midwest regional meet are Spartans— Matt Meyers and Jimmy Baeskens. In leading AU to its second straight team conference title a year ago, Meyers was also the first runner in school history to win the NACC cross-country meet. And if it weren't for Meyers, Baeskens would undoubtedly have the best résumé of any sophomore ever on a Spartan roster. The Californian finished third at last year's conference meet.
